Hello and welcome back to the Haus Blog.
As always we have lots to fill you in on and keep you up to date with including new ski boots. The past few weeks appear to have flown by (how is it that the older you get the quicker time seems to disappear …), anyway on with the blog.
There are, of course, lots of places where you can ski around the world, the European Alps account for a relatively compact selection of alpine environments in which we can enjoy ourselves, test our resolve and generally make the most out of life. When the HWB team are out and about we are often asked “why Austria, why choose to live, work and play here”.
There is of course no simple answer to this, however there are a few things which edged it for us …
Austria is a definitive alpine country, many of the traditions, ways of doing things and general approach to life have been shaped by the environment in which we live. This makes it a country where winter sports, apres ski, the food, the friendliness all form parts of what makes Austria the country it is. Here in Mühlbach am Hochkönig (the home of the HWB team), we are all of those things, but (in our opinion) with a great ski area with quiet pistes, relatively low prices (a beer on the mountain here costs less than €4), friendly service, beautiful views and amazing mountain restaurants such as the Zapfel Alm, Tierregarten Alm and Steinbok Alm, to name but a few. (Summer is also great, but thats for another blog …)
So when people ask, why here? The above is our reply, or thereabouts and we think you might like it too …
So on to Apres Ski. The haus team have been out ad about a bit of late, so thought we would try and reason as to why there is nowhere like Austria for Apes Ski. Like it or hate it, the music, the shots, the crazy names for drinks such as Jägerbomb, Flying Hirsch, JackieBull, Hugo and Willi all make for an entertaining night out. Our mountain huts actually have some history attached to them, rather than been mock alpine and the service whilst you out enjoying yourself is legendary. Here in the Hochkönig we are a family ski area, so the Apres ski is what you make it, if you want to go crazy then you can, whatever your aim, we are sure you will have fun doing it!
New Boots. New to the haus are a pair of Nordica Dobermann GP 120 boots. So far they are performing well, better than well in fact, they transfer your movement, deliver power through to the ski and aren’t all that bad to look at either. A further report will follow soon when we have had a real chance to give them a proper run out. Very exciting …
Conditions. The slopes are the best they have been all season. We are 100% open and there is powder to enjoy. It is however very cold -20c outside this morning so wrap up warm.
All the best from the Haus team and until next time.
Duncan, Vikki and Boo.
