Daily Essentials …

…. whatever your needs for breakfast, lunch or supper, it’s just a stones throw from Haus Wasserbauer. Both less than two minute walk we have a well stocked supermarket with deli, fresh bread, local hams and cheeses, plus all your holiday essentials. (Just for info please note Supermarkets in Austria do not open on Sundays / bank holidays and opening times may vary to the UK) and a local bakery (all of the products are baked on site in Mühlbach!). Inside you will find everything from organic rolls and loaves, traditional Austrian breads, pastries, chocolate and some basic essentials.

Restaurants and Bars …

… Within less than a 2 minute walk from Haus Wasserbauer we have the Mesnerhaus Cafe/Bar Restaurant which serves up some traditional Austrian dishes such as Weiner Schnitzel or Cordon Bleu and dishes from around the world including chicken curry, pizza, chinese and much more.  The bar is great for a night of apres ski and its only a short walk home, just don´t go hard on the jägerbombs!  Up the road from Haus Wasserbauer is Anderlwirt Restaurant \ Bar where you will be greeted with a warm welcome. The food here is mostly traditional Austrian, ask for Vikki special or Bauernkrapfen.

A little further afield (both walkable) are the Pass Bauer and Scheppal Alm.  The Pass Bauer is a 30-40 minute walk from Haus Wasserbauer up a typical mountain road. You can grab a taxi there if you wish.  There is a great mix of traditional local specialities with many dishes home made, the deserts are to die for!

The Scheppal Alm is a 30 minute walk from your front door and is located on the piste by the gondolier station. Again you can travel by bus, car, or taxi and do the same in return or walk down the ski weg.  There is always a party to be had and the food is great. If your happy to have an early supper, meet there after a day on the slopes, do some apres ski and then have a pork knuckle with chips. (must be pre ordered!)

Ski & Summer Alms …

Looking to refuel after a day on the slopes or a summer hike?  Across the Hochkönig we have over 35 huts and alms serving anything from traditional Austrian specialties, pizza, steak, fondue, salads and much more. Below are the Haus favorites throughout the region.

Zapfelalm : Located at the bottom of the Kings Cab (on the blue run home in winter!) its the Haus favorite.  Great food, good service, a fun atmosphere and always a party when you want one. The Zapfel never disappoints.

Tieregarten Alm : Just down from the top of the Kings Cab, the Tiergarten Alm has been fully renovated for winter 15/16. The sun terrace has amazing views and there is a good relaxed vibe.

Steinbockalm : Located between Mühlbach and Dienten, lunch at the Steinbockalm is always a treat. One of the Hochkönigs best restaurants it makes a great stop off point when you are on your way back from the Königstour.

Thoraualm : On the way to Maria Alm you can find the Thoraulam. Traditional and cosy the food is homemade and the Schnapps even better. Try the burger it’s great.

Schweizerhütte : If cheese fondue is your thing, then this is the place for you. Only open on a Thursday night  (tables must be pre booked). You can take a taxi up there for free and enjoy the food.

Night time …

If your a night owl and want to cut some shapes, then the Almrausch Bar is the place for you. Open until early, you can dance the night away and its only a short walk home.
